What could be better than a day off from school? A day spent with Moorestown Parks and Rec’s “School’s Off — Rec’s On” program. Throughout the school year, there are a number of days when there is a holiday or school is closed for a teacher’s convention. Why not sign up with the Rec. and have some fun. We offer a way for kid’s grades two through six to stay active and take a break from their every day routine.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19 and Thursday, Nov. 8, children in grades two through six will bowl at Pinsetters in Maple Shade. This is an exciting venue with 34 lanes and state-of-the art, user friendly Qubica AMF scoring system complete with high-definition monitors. Lunch will be served in a private room with a choice of pizza, hot dog, hamburger, grilled cheese or chicken tenders.

Afterwards, the bus will return to the Rec. Center where participants can enjoy ping pong, air hockey and fuss ball on the Third Floor. The gym on the first floor will also be an option for a pick-up basketball game or floor hockey. Come out and have a “mini-camp” getaway. This program is for Moorestown residents only and is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bus will depart from the Re.c Center at 10 a.m.

On Friday, Nov. 9 the Recreation Center will be busy with many different options. Your child can be busy all day if desired. In the morning, we will offer a basketball pre-season clinic with Ted Flick from 9 a.m. to noon for grades three through six. In the afternoon, open gym will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. for grades four through 12 for pickup basketball games.

Also on Nov. 9, we will offer two culinary classes with Chef Katie. She will lead participants through two different culinary classes designed for grades two through eight. The first class, 9 a.m. to noon, will focus on knife skills and ratios. Participants in grades two through six will prepare ingredients for taco fillings and then make fresh handmade flour tortillas.

The second culinary class from 1 to 4 p.m. will be a fun adventure through the process of pasta making. Dough prepared from scratch, then rolled, cut and filled to take home and enjoy as a family.

If your child is participating in both a morning and afternoon session they are welcome to bring a bagged lunch on Nov. 9.
