Monroe Township Schools recognizing Mensa Foundation’s Excellence in Reading participants

Press release from Whitehall Elementary School

The Mensa Foundation recognizes and encourages education, gifted youth and lifelong learning through a variety of resources. To encourage the joy of reading, the foundation has developed the Mensa for Kids Excellence in Reading Program. Acknowledging the value of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ appreciation of classic literature for young people, the Mensa Foundation created this year round reading challenge.

Monroe Township’s elementary TAG teachers brought this program to their students in January of 2017. Then second grade TAG students were invited to participate in an optional contest. Their challenge was to read all 64 books on the assigned list by April of their third grade year. 19 Monroe Township students accomplished this impressive achievement and earned a commemorative certificate and an Excellence in Reading t-shirt. Their teachers are so very proud of their commitment and enthusiasm in reading so many books!! Congratulations!
