Haddonfield spring planting program receives financial boost

Stewardship grant from state to provide extra green for beautification effort

The borough of Haddonfield announced on Tuesday it has received a stewardship grant from the New Jersey Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program.

The grant, which is valued at over $27,000, will provide funds for the 2019 spring planting program. Haddonfield currently removes approximately 200 street trees annually due to disease, insects and failure for other reasons.

“We lose a large number of trees every year,” Haddonfield commissioner John Moscatelli said. “This grant is a huge boost to the citizens of Haddonfield who will benefit greatly over time from the shade provided by the 85 new trees we will be plant next spring.”

The Haddonfield Shade Tree Commission applied for the grant earlier this year. The borough received a similar planting grant in 2014.
