Grove Street detour to start Wednesday, Aug. 8

Traffic will detoured due to structural work on bridge over Cooper River

Traffic will be detoured northbound on Grove Street toward Route 70 beginning Wednesday, Aug. 8, due to structural work on a bridge spanning the Cooper River, according to a statement released by Camden County.

The detour will be in effect for the duration of the project, but the exact timing and completion of the work may be altered by weather and other factors, county officials said.

Drivers will be detoured at Kings Highway and directed to Park Boulevard to avoid the work zone, according to the statement. Southbound traffic on Grove Street from Route 70 toward Haddonfield will not be affected by the construction. Pedestrians will also be able to access the bridge.

During peak travel times, local police departments will manually control traffic signals for the one-way detour at the intersections of Kings Highway and Park Boulevard and Park Boulevard and Grove Street to mitigate delays, according to the release.

The Grove Street Bridge project is being done in conjunction with another project repairing the Cuthbert Boulevard Bridge in Haddon Township. Crews will maintain a single lane of traffic over that bridge in both directions during construction, the county said.

The projects, which cost a total of $1 million, are being funded by the state Department of Transportation Local Bridge Future Needs fund and will include various measures to strengthen the weakened beams of the bridges, according to the release.
