Mt. Laurel Meeting Peach Festival returns Aug. 4

It’s cakes topped with peaches and ice cream, entertainment and more to support the Mt. Laurel Meetinghouse.

One of Mt. Laurel’s longtime, summertime events is set to return for its 27th year when the Mt. Laurel Meeting hosts its annual Peach Festival on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Those who look back fondly at the Peach Festivals of years gone by won’t be disappointed, as this year’s event is set to feature the same delicious peaches and fun as past events.

For those looking to eat some tasty treats, visitors can try the event’s homemade cakes topped with locally grown peaches or taste some homemade ice cream that’s been churned on-site with an old-fashioned ice cream machine.

The event will also feature a display of classic cars for automobile fanatics, and kids will once again be treated to balloon animals and tricks from Pretzels the Clown.

Proceeds from this year’s event will once again support the ongoing restoration and upkeep of the Historic Mt. Laurel Meetinghouse, where this year’s event will once again take place.

While the festival originally attracted a few hundred locals when it began, recent events have attracted nearly 1,000 attendees to help support local history through the Mt. Laurel Meetinghouse.

Located on the corner of Moorestown-Mt. Laurel Road and Hainesport-Mt. Laurel Road, the Mt. Laurel Meetinghouse is one of the oldest Quaker buildings in the Delaware Valley and is part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in 1760, the hand-hewn sandstone structure also served as a temporary hospital for American and British soldiers who were injured in local battles in 1778 during the Revolutionary War.

Since it was constructed, local residents have continuously used the meetinghouse in various capacities for more than 250 years.

For those with an interest in the history, volunteers will be on hand at the upcoming Peach Festival to offer informal tours of the historic meetinghouse.

Just some of the past projects funded at the meetinghouse with proceeds from the Peach Festival include lighting work, a new roof, a small kitchen installation, interior and exterior painting, bathroom work and the installation of a heating system.

“Join us on Aug. 4 for a step back in time and a chance to enjoy fun and delicious food with friends and neighbors,” said festival volunteer Lucy Beard.

This year’s 27th annual Mt. Laurel Meeting Peach Festival will take place on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 4:30 until 7 p.m., rain or shine.

As with past events, tickets to the Peach Festival cost $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 4 and older and free admission for any children younger than age 4.

For information about this year’s event, contact the Moorestown Monthly Meeting office at (856) 235–1561 before Aug. 4.
