Monroe Township Police Department apprehends shoplifter

Press release from Monroe Township Police Department’s Facebook page

The Monroe Township Police Department (MTPD) arrested and charged a Sicklerville man with robbery, shoplifting, assault on police, resisting arrest and attempt to elude police. The date of incident was not disclosed.

The patrol units of Delta Platoon were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint. As the officer was obtaining information from the loss prevention unit of Walmart, the suspect allegedly assaulted the loss prevention employee and then struck the officer as he fled the store. The suspect then left the scene in a motor vehicle while being pursued by a marked patrol unit. The pursuit was terminated for public safety.

The suspect was later arrested without incident in Winslow Township. This arrest was a coordinated effort between officers from Winslow Township Police Department, detectives and patrol units from MTPD.

We are thankful the loss prevention employee was not injured during this event. The MTPD officer did have minor injuries.
