California resident sentenced to 15 years in prison for crimes committed in Gloucester County

Press release issued by Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office

Bryan W. Anast, 50, is currently serving a 55 year sentence in California for multiple sex offense. In Woodbury Superior Court on June 29 he was sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a girl in Monroe and Washington Townships and Glassboro when she was six in 1992 and continuing for two years.

An evaluation of Anast at New Jersey’s Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a facility for sex offenders at Avenel NJ, determined he is a repetitive and compulsive sex offender and is eligible to serve his sentence and undergo treatment at the center, Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith said.

Under terms of a negotiated plea, Anast’s sentence will run concurrently with his 55-year California sentence, imposed August 15, 2014 on six counts of lewd acts with a child, sexual abuse and possession of child pornography. If Anast’s California incarceration ends short of the term imposed and he is returned to New Jersey, he will be placed in Avenel Judge Smith said.

The victim in the California and New Jersey offenses was the same girl, who disclosed Anast’s acts when she was 18 in 2006.

In sentencing Anast, Judge Smith said he gave significant weight to the possibility that Anast would reoffend. At Avenel he admitted to a lifelong interest in pre-pubescent children, the judge said.
