Obituary: Robert W. Southwick

A mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Good Counsel Church.

Robert W. Southwick passed on June 13 at the age 85 in Moorestown. He was the husband of Mary (nee Bonham; father of John (Sandra) Southwick and Brian (Kristine) Southwick. He was also the brother of Jack Southwick and Andrea Salapka. He was pre-deceased by sister Barbara Ann Bianchi. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Justin, Elise, Nicole, Tori, Alex, Jordan and Sean and four great-grandchildren: Colton, Eric, Noah and Alexis.

Bob’s strong work ethic began at age nine with various odd jobs. He proudly served 21 years with the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He embarked on a second career with Computer Sciences Corporation as operations manager then director. He retired from CSC after 27 years.

Bob’s volunteerism was a critical component of his life. His work with Catholic Charities earned him a rare seat on the Board of Directors in perpetuity as well as being honored with the Burlington County Light of Hope and Richard J. Hughes Humanitarian awards. He was also on the Board of Directors for United Way and received the Volunteer of the Year award multiple times.

Bob met the love of his life, (Mary) Cathy, while in the Air Force in 1952, and they were married for 64 blessed years. His family gave him strength to fight through illness for 25 years. He doted on his grandchildren in retirement. His family takes comfort knowing that he is at peace in His hands.

A mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Good Counsel Church located at: 42 W. Main St. in Moorestown. A visitation will take place on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home located at: 78 E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemeteryin Arneytown. Please no flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to: Samaritan Hospice 5 Eves Dr. Marlton, NJ 08053 or the Providence House.
