George Nishimura, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 8. He was a long-time resident of Haddonfield. He was the beloved husband of Mikiko; devoted father of Jaynie and John (Karen), and loving Pop Pop of Gemma and Sean; dear brother of Richard, Laura, Bryce, Donald and late Flora, Katherine and John, and uncle to several nieces and nephews and dear family member of Dick and Reggie Toone, the late Eleanor Baker, and their children.

After being released from the Manzanar War Internment Camp, George honorably served his country in WWII Germany in the US Army. During his retirement years, he still kept active as an adjunct professor at Camden County College.

George served as a deacon and elder of the Haddonfield Presbyterian Church. His favorite hobby was golfing with his buddies, and he also enjoyed nature, music, cooking, and traveling with his wife. Late in life he especially enjoyed any time he had with his grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Monday, June 25, at 10 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church, 20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033, followed by a service at 11 a.m.

Deep appreciation and much thanks go to so many, including the nurses and staff at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees for their tremendous compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of George, please share an act of kindness or lend a helping hand to someone or a donation could be made in his memory to Samaritan Hospice at www.samaritannj.org/giving .
