Weekly Roundup: State offers info on new lanes for Route 73, police release community survey

State offers info on new third lane of traffic for section of Route 73 in Marlton

Marlton residents had their chance this week to ask questions and offer input on a plan from the state Department of Transportation to add a third lane of north-and-southbound traffic to a section of Route 73 in Evesham Township. According to Daniel Triana, public information officer for DOT Communications, DOT has identified the intersection of Route 73 and Marlton Parkway “as area of traffic congestion which can benefit from operational improvements.”

Evesham Police to utilize roadside checkpoints for DWI enforcement through September

Evesham Township Chief of Police Christopher Chew and the Evesham Township Police Department are announcing the intention to use the full effects of roadside checkpoints for the remainder of this spring season and upcoming summer season to help with the enforcement of laws against intoxicated or impaired drivers. Police describe Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) as “a very serious violation” of state law and as a crime that is “taken very seriously by the entire ETPD.”

Evesham Township Police Department launches community survey

The Evesham Township Police Department is looking for feedback from the members of the public it serves. The department launched a community survey last week where members of the public can offer their opinions of the department either online or through a paper form available at police headquarters. According to Evesham Police Capt. Walt Miller, the survey will allow the department to gain insight to the attitudes and opinions members of the public hold toward the department and its operations.

Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Golf Tournament fundraiser returns July 24

The Konstantinos Scholarship Foundation has announced the 26th Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Tournament, set to take place on July 24 at the Medford Lakes Country Club. The yearly golf tournament raises money to fund scholarships for students across the district in memory of former, longtime superintendent Kereazis “Kiki” Konstantinos, who served as superintendent for the district for three decades, from 1963 through 1993.

Newspaper Media Group acquires the Hudson Reporter newspaper chain

Hudson Reporter Publishers Lucha Malato and David Unger have announced the sale of their company, Hudson Reporter Assoc. LP, to the Newspaper Media Group (NMG) of Cherry Hill. NMG is the publisher of more than 50 weekly, community newspapers in Southern and Central New Jersey, as well as in the Greater Philadelphia market. In addition, NMG also publishes a monthly B to B newspaper on Staten Island.
