Burlington Township Police Department releases results of seat belt campaign

Officers dedicated 100 hours of patrol time to the “Click it or Ticket” initiative between May 21 and June 3

The Burlington Township Police Department recently participated in the national “Click it or Ticket” seat belt mobilization campaign, according to Public Safety Director Bruce Painter.

Officers dedicated 100 hours of patrol time to this initiative between May 21 and June 3 with the following results:

· 92 seat belt summonses

· 4 cell phone/texting summonses

· 21 suspended driver summonses

· 1 child restraint summons

· 8 careless driving summonses

· 13 speeding summonses

· 3 reckless driving summonses

· 177 other summonses

In total, the department issued 319 motor vehicle summonses.

In addition, officers assigned to the initiative made two DWI arrests, one CDS arrest, one hindering apprehension arrest and three warrant arrests.

Painter said he credits all the men and women of the Burlington Township Police Department for making this initiative successful and for making Burlington Township a safe community. Whereas the operational period for this initiative has ended, the department said it remains committed to improving seat belt compliance in an attempt to decrease the number of traffic fatalities and injuries.
