South Jersey NOW to host program on immigration

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at First Baptist Church in Moorestown.

South Jersey NOW — The Alice Paul Chapter will host a meeting and program on Wednesday, June 13 at First Baptist Church in Moorestown at 7:30 pm. The program is titled “The Experience of Female Immigrants in the U.S.: The Internal and External Journey.”

Speaker Dr. Lucy Takagi will address the multiple factors involved in the immigration journey, especially for female immigrants. The vulnerability undocumented women endure and the resilience they develop in adapting to a new country will also be addressed. Examples of cases and the myths regarding undocumented immigrants will also be discussed.

Takagi, a licensed psychologist and forensic evaluator. She has done assessments and treatment of children and families impacted by allegations of abuse and/or neglect. She serves as clinical specialist at the Robert D. McCormick Center for Child Advocacy and Policy at Montclair State University and performs psychological evaluations for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services department. In addition, Takagi volunteers clinical therapy for A Home Within, an organization that provides free and continuous psychological services to children and adolescents with a history in the child welfare system.

Attendees should enter via the side door closest to large municipal parking lot. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m, and the speaker presentation will be from approximately 8:30–9:30.
