Honoring veterans, Super Saturday, and promoting a police officer

A message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

John Robertson and Mayor Joann Gattinelli with the rest of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board

Veterans Honor John W. Robertson

I am proud to announce that on May 7, the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board honored member John Robertson by renaming “Meeting Room D” at the Washington Township Municipal Building to the “John W. Robertson Conference Room”. I was pleased to be a part of this honor, along with Councilwoman Angela Donato, and the rest of the Board. When Veterans Affairs Advisory Board Chair, Mr. Bob Abbott came to me with this idea to honor Mr. Robertson, I was only too happy to agree. Mr. John W. Robertson was elected Mayor of Washington Township in 1982–1983 and then again from 1985–1988. He also approved the production of the James G. Atkinson All Veterans Park 30 years ago, along with being a retired Marine Corps veteran. Mr. Abbott, the rest of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board, and I determined it was time to honor all of Mr. Robertson’s accomplishments in Washington Township by presenting him with this honor. As Mayor of Washington Township, I thank John W. Robertson for his past service as a Marine to our country and for everything he has done for Washington Township.

Washington Township Police Department Swearing-In

At the May 9 Council meeting, I was pleased to swear-in Len Baldyga as a Sergeant of the Washington Township Police Department. There to help me swear-in the Sergeant was Police Chief, Pat Gurcsik, all of Council, as well as Sgt. Baldyga’s family members. As always, I am honored to be a part of these ceremonies. I am proud of the dedication and resilience that Sgt. Baldyga has shown on his way to being promoted to Sergeant. Washington Township is fortunate to have such compassionate and committed police officers who are looking to provide the best public service to all residents of Washington Township. I wish Sgt. Baldyga all the best and continued success as a member of the Washington Township Police Department.

Super Saturday 2018

On May 12, I was happy to attend the annual Washington Township Super Saturday celebration at Washington Lake Park. As usual, there were bouncy rides for kids, vendor tables for shopping, food, music, Washington Township Police Demos with K-9 officers, the Orchard Valley Middle School band, chainsaw wood sculpture demos, and many more fun activities for all to enjoy. I was very pleased to see the crowds at Washington Lake Park from my station at the 4th of July Parade table, promoting the 4th of July Parade, the new Washington Township App, and the Shop Washington Township Program. Also present at Super Saturday were Council President Joe Perry, Council Vice President Sean Longfellow, and Councilwoman Angela Donato. I would like to thank our Event Coordinator, Lisa Collins, Park Supervisor, Nick Fiorentino, along with the rest of the Parks Department and Public Works Department for their assistance in making this event a success for our residents.
