Cherokee High School students attend International DECA Conference

Five Cherokee DECA chapter members earned spots to attend DECA’s annual International Career Development Conference in Atlanta.

Five Cherokee High School DECA chapter members earned spots to attend DECA’s annual International Career Development Conference in Atlanta from April 21 to April 24.

During the school year, officials say approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 225,000 student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and regional titles.

According to officials, the competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. By placing in top six at the state level, Cherokee’s Cameron Vinson (grade 12) qualified to compete against other students from all over the world in the area of business finance.

In addition to career-based competition, DECA members can also earn spots attend in leadership academies. These spots are earned throughout the school year by completing various chapter campaigns and projects. Cherokee DECA Members who attended these leadership academies included Blake Sokol (grade 11), Gigi Glenning (grade 11), Dan Martin (grade 12), and Aashna Sheravia (grade 11). Travel to Atlanta for these students was supplemented through financial contributions from Chapter’s sponsors. Those sponsors include the Marlton Business Association, Samaritan Health and Hospice and Bradley Funeral Home.

According to officials, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
