Rowan College at Burlington County’s Chi Iota chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international honor society for two-year colleges, has earned the Five Star Chapter status in recognition of its level of participation in honor society programs.

Phi Theta Kappa chapters have five levels of engagement that progress from local, campus involvement to regional involvement to international involvement. Officials say The Five Star Chapter Plan helps build active and strong chapters.

Rowan College at Burlington County’s chapter participated in NJC4, the statewide Community College Completion Challenge initiative, completed an Honors in Action Project on mental health and assisted in other programs and activities over the last year.

In addition to the Five Star Chapter status, RCBC students earned distinction for their leadership and service. Chapter president Jourdin Dewberry, of Willingboro, and vice president of Leadership Christina Miller, of Mt. Holly, were named to the Chapter Officer Hall of Honor.

Also, assistant mathematics professor and Chi Iota advisor William Whitfield received the Continued Excellence Award for Advisors.

Officials say Phi Theta Kappa has recognized and encouraged scholarship among community college students for 99 years while promoting the academic integrity of the associate degree program. Students with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa.
