President signs bill changing name of Mullica Hill Post Office

The Mullica Hill post office on Bridgeton Pike will soon be known as the “James C. ‘Billy’ Johnson Post Office Building.”

Dennis Clowney, former deputy mayor of Harrison Township, recommended the name of the post office change in past years and the bill was first introduced to the House on Nov. 7, 2017.

Johnson, of Mullica Hill, was a second lieutenant in the United States Army serving in World War II. Johnson was killed in action on Oct. 22, 1944, by a direct mortar hit. The name change was brought to Washington as a bill, sponsored by Congressman Frank LoBiondo, and has since passed the House and Senate and President Donald Trump signed the bill into law on March 23.

A plaque will be installed inside the lobby of the building after a date for an event is selected.
