New spring programs in bloom at the Rec.

Learn a new skill during a new season with the Moorestown Department of Parks & Recreation.

Calling all kids two to eight years old! Spring is here and Moorestown Parks & Recreation has some great programs just for you. Spring programs include art class, dance and basketball along with soccer and tennis clinics. Remember: when school ends you’ll be participating in summer camps at your new grade level, so get some practice in, explore your favorites or try something new.

  • Spring Co-Ed Soccer for ages five to seven:

Paul Wimbleton runs the Three Lions Soccer Academy. His is a former British professional “football” (soccer) player with more than 20 years of professional coaching experience. Three Lions Soccer Academy is a top tier organization that specializes in technical, tactical and physical development of youth players. This is a great opportunity to develop strong fundamentals of the game as well as sportsmanship and general soccer knowledge. The clinic begins on Tuesday, April 10 and runs through May 22 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Wesley Bishop on the Lower Turf Field.

  • Spring Co-Ed Basketball for grades one and two:

Join Coach Ted Flick to prepare for summer basketball leagues. Spring Basketball Clinics for first and second start May 3 for four weeks on Thursday evenings from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center. Coach Flick starts the clinic with everybody working on basketball handling and dribbling. Kids then break into groups and rotate through basic skills like passing and shooting. The fundamentals are taught and reinforced in a fun and dynamic environment.

  • Spring Tennis for ages five through eight:

Learn the basics of tennis. Kids learn how to hit forehands, backhands and volleys. There are two sessions for youngsters: Tuesday evenings with Missy Mercer from 5 to 6 p.m. at Jeff Young Park starting on May 1 and Saturdays with George Crouse from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Fullerton Park starting May 5. Tennis is a challenging sport that can be played your entire life. Start young and reap the benefits.

  • Spring Art for kindergarten through third grade:

Spring art classes for kindergarten through third grade will be offered on Saturdays for six weeks starting May 5. Kindergarten and first grades will meet from 11 a.m. to noon and second and third grades from noon to 1 p.m. Sophia Geiger will inspire youngsters to explore pattern, texture, line, shape, tone and color. The third floor art studio is expansive and loaded with fun materials. Summer Art Camp will be August 6 through August 10.

  • Dance Classes for ages two to seven.

Creative Dance lessons for ages four and five. Hip hop and jazz for ages five to seven and creative dance for Mommy and Me for ages two to three. Instructor Sommer Bayard will lead the children in all our dance classes. Sommer has a wide range of disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop and has performed in New York City and Disney World.
