Lenape Regional High School District BOE approves tentative 2018–2019 school year budget

For Tabernacle Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $264,225 will see a tax levy increase of $18.41.

The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education approved its tentative 2018–2019 school year budget at this week’s BOE meeting.

Appropriations for the budget total $162.6 million, which is a 2.19 percent increase from the current year’s budget.

According to the district, the budget’s general fund tax levy will increase 2.97 percent to $115,467,007, and the budget’s debt service tax levy will decrease $114,039 to $6,453,913.

The tax impact of the 2018–2019 school year budget for each of the district’s eight constituent municipalities is as follows:

• For Evesham Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $270,500 will see a tax levy increase of 1.08 cents, resulting in an annual increase in regional school taxes of $33.41.

• For Medford Lakes Borough, residents with an average assessed home valued at $285,500 will see a tax levy increase of 7.24 cents, resulting in an annual increase in regional school taxes of $204.32.

• For Medford Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $326,300 will see a tax levy increase of .54 cents, resulting in an annual increase in regional school taxes of $11.58.

• For Mt. Laurel Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $237,600 will see a tax levy increase of 3.51 cents, resulting in an annual increase in regional school taxes of $82.79.

• For Shamong Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $308,482 will see a tax levy decrease of .99 cents, resulting in a decrease in regional school taxes of $27.95.

• For Southampton Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $192,218 will see a tax levy decrease of 4.02 cents, resulting in a decrease in regional school taxes of $76.66.

• For Tabernacle Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $264,225 will see a tax levy increase of .50 cents, resulting in an increase in regional school taxes of $18.41.

• For Woodland Township, residents with an average assessed home valued at $256,900 will see a tax levy increase of 5.03 cents, resulting in an increase in regional school taxes of $113.79.

District officials say a public hearing for the 2018–2019 school year budget will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. during the district’s next BOE meeting at the LRHSD Administration Building at 93 Willow Grove Road in Shamong.

During that April meeting, officials say the district will present a more detailed discussion of the budget and the budget’s tax impact for the eight constituent municipalities of the district.

In other news:

• This week’s BOE meeting also saw the board honor the Shawnee High School debate team, which defeated the Cherry Hill High School East debate team, 12–2, in February to win the South Jersey Debate League championship.

• Seneca High School students Kasey Mitchell and Abby Regn, and Shawnee students Claire Flannery and Olivia Goldberg each gave presentations featuring an overview of the various activities that have taken place at their respective schools so far this school year, such as spirit weeks, athletic accomplishments, powderpuff football games, safe trick or treat events and more.
