Spring into a new season in Cinnaminson

Cinnaminson has a wide array of events taking place this spring.

With the days getting longer, spring in Cinnaminson is just around the corner. From trying laughter yoga at the Cinnaminson Library to dining out to support Cinnaminson’s Relay for Life, residents have a variety of ways to enjoy the season.

Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series

Deputy Mayor Donald Brauckmann said Cinnaminson’s Department of Parks and Recreation will features a Decades Concert series with each concert featuring a band from a different decade.

“We will have the band Sounds of the Street playing your favorites of the ’50s and ’60s, the band American Hawk featuring ’70s sounds, ’80s music will be performed by the band Route 80’s and finally we have the group Screaming Broccoli playing your favorite ’90s to the present sounds,” Brauckmann said.

Concerts will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets and non-alcoholic beverages.

Baseball opening day

The Cinnaminson Pirates opening day will take place on Saturday, April 7 at Memorial Park.

“We have the [high] school team come out and meet the players, the mayor and council members come out and make a speech and we are dedicating two of our fields to two local fallen heroes,” said the Pirates’ President of the Board of Directors, Matt Kravil.

Kravil said residents should try to make it out to a game this spring because in his eyes, there is nothing better than a spring night with some snacks and local baseball.

He said residents should be on the lookout for team fundraisers this spring. He said the team’s main fundraiser will be the cookie dough sale.

Designer Handbag Bingo

The Cinnaminson Home and School Association’s Project Graduation team will host a designer handbag BINGO in the cafeteria of Cinnaminson High School on Friday, May 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event is $40 to attend and includes dinner, dessert, coffee/tea and a BINGO book, and all funds raised benefit Cinnaminson’s project graduation.

The event will also feature baskets and door prizes. Participants must be 18 or older to attend.

Project Graduation is a subcommittee of the Cinnaminson High School Home and School Association. The committee annually plans a drug- and alcohol-free celebration on graduation night to keep seniors out of harm.

‘Stick A Fork in Cancer’ fundraiser

Although Cinnaminson’s Relay for Life does not occur until September, teams are actively fundraising throughout the spring. The primary fundraiser is “Stick A Fork in Cancer.”

Rivertown residents can join the fight against cancer by dining out at participating restaurants in Cinnaminson, Palmyra and Riverton from April 1 to April 8. A portion of all the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Cinnaminson.

Library events

The Cinnaminson Library is hosting a wide array of events this spring. Librarian Christina Chichester said the library will continue its laughter yoga series. Presented by Karen Siugzda of Laughter Wellness with Karen, the popular class accompanies traditional yoga with intentional laughter, breathing, mindfulness and movement.

“People sound like they’re having a great time,” Chichester said. “The laughter becomes genuine.”

Attendees do not have to be flexible or bring any supplies to participate. The class will be moving to Wednesday nights at the library, Chichester said. Registration is required.

The library will also be introducing a beginner’s iPhone and iPad workshop, Chichester said. She said the library’s current class has become popular with regular attendees coming back each week, so they wanted to introduce a class that takes place once a month for attendees who have never come before.

Attendees should bring their fully charged iPad or iPhone when attending. Registration is required.

The library will host a two-part boating safety certification course on Thursday, May 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, May 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. These courses are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

The course includes lectures, student workbook, handouts and testing to meet state requirements. Participants must attend both days to get certified. Registration is required.

Chichester said she encourages Cinnaminson residents to participate in the library’s programming for a simple reason.

“It’s a way of supporting your community,” Chichester said. “Libraries stay open because people use us.”
