Marlton resident named to The Salvation Army Advisory Board of Southwest New Jersey

Denise Venuti Free works as director of communications and external affairs for New Jersey American Water.

The Salvation Army’s Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden have announced that Denise Venuti Free, director of communications and external affairs for New Jersey American Water and the Eastern Division of American Water, has been named the newest member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board of Southwest New Jersey.

“We are excited to welcome Denise to the Advisory Board,” said Maj. Terry Wood of The Salvation Army in Camden . “She has a wealth of experience and we believe she will be an invaluable asset to our organization as we continue to grow and expand.”

Free has more than 25 years of experience in the communications field. In 2009, Free first joined American Water as manager of external communications.

In her current position as director of communications and external affairs, she oversees external affairs for American Water’s entire Eastern Division, which includes New Jersey American Water, New York American Water, Virginia American Water and Maryland American Water.

Free is responsible for the management and implementation of all communications and external affairs strategy across the four operating companies, which include customer education, media relations, issues management and community outreach.

Prior to joining American Water, Free served as the senior director of communications for the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, as well as senior director of public relations for the National Constitution Center and manager of public relations for the Pennsylvania Ballet.

In addition to her work with The Salvation Army, Free serves as chair of the Communications Committee for the National Association of Water Companies and is a current fellow in Lead New Jersey’s Class of 2018.

She is also a member of the New Jersey Utilities Association and Public Relations Society of America.

Free received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Rutgers University in New Brunswick and currently resides in Marlton.
