The Mt. Laurel Republican committee has unanimously chosen Mayor Richard Van Noord and Deputy Mayor Dennis Riley to represent the party in the upcoming June primary.

According to the committee, the two were chosen on the recommendation of a six person committee and presented to the full committee.

Committee officials say Van Noord led the effort on council that saved the Township more than a quarter million dollars in property and casualty costs and helped place the Township in a greater position of flexibility when it comes to Township health care benefits.

“Dennis and I ran four years ago on a platform that we would be good stewards of the taxpayers’ money, and we’ve lived up to our promises. We look forward to running on the many good things we have done for Mount Laurel,” Van Noord said.

Committee officials say Riley, who works in the financial services industry, spearheaded the successful effort to solidify the Township’s “Double A” bond rating.

Riley said he is honored to run for re-election “to serve all of the people of Mount Laurel to continue providing the highest standards of service, solutions and responsiveness.”

Renee Liciaga, chair of the selection committee for the Mt. Laurel Republican Committee’s, said the selection of Van Noord and Riley was a “no brainer.”

“Dennis and Rich have proven to be not only excellent councilmen, but also good neighbors who are responsive to the needs of the community. Our committee was proud to make the recommendation,” Liciaga said.
