For the first time, the Moorestown High School Girls softball team will be going to Disney in Orlando, Fla. for spring training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from March 15 to 19. They will get the chance to play against opponents from 127 teams from all over the country.

Twenty players from Moorestown will make the trek south. All are involved in Moorestown High School softball whether freshman, junior varsity or varsity and span grades nine through twelve. The boys’ baseball team has been going to the ESPN site for years, and now, it’s the girls’ turn. They are excited to get the opportunity to represent MHS and play this year.

The tournament will be an opportunity for the ladies to stretch out their muscles, get some game time before the start of their season, meet other athletes at the various tournament festivities and most importantly have some fun. In Florida, the players will be able to watch NCAA games at the ESPN site and of course, explore the Disney parks for three evenings after the morning games.

“This is something we have thought about doing for a couple of years,” said varsity softball coach Bill Mulvihill. “I think it will be a great experience for the girls to get some quality games in early and then enjoy the parks.”

The team had a good year last year and will look to be even better this season. A core part of the team will return this year along with a batch of new freshman players. The high school softball schedule is firmed up and the season starts on April 3 at Burlington Township with the home opener set for April 12 against Bordentown.

The team is working hard fundraising, so residents may see the softball players around the area asking for donations for their trip. If you would like to support the team, please contact Bill Mulvihill at wmulvihill@mtps.com.
