Lent to begin with Wednesday worship at First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian will host a Lenten service on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.

The Moorestown community is invited to join with other members and friends of First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown who will embark on a powerful journey together in small groups into fellowship, discovery and learning this Lenten season.

The season begins with an Ash Wednesday Worship service of repentance and renewal on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The six weeks of Lent are a time for prayer, reflection, repentance and self-denial as preparation to celebrate the Resurrection and lead up to Holy Week and Easter.

During Lent, a popular small group series will be offered using Christopher Wright’s book “To the Cross: Proclaiming the Gospel from the Upper Room to Calvary.” Small groups begin Feb. 18 and run through March 30. Groups are available on a variety of days and times, so find one that works with your schedule. Sign up online at www.fpcmoorestown.org/lentenstudy or with the church office at (856) 235–1688.

With the expertise of a veteran biblical scholar and the wisdom of a seasoned pastor, Wright skillfully guides readers on Jesus’ journey from the Last Supper to the cross. Through the lens of the Old Testament, Wright navigates the Gospel accounts of events that include the meal in the Upper Room, Peter’s denials, the taunts and jeers of soldiers and bystanders and the anguish of crucifixion, inviting us to meditate on their significance for us. Adapted from sermons Wright preached at All Souls Church in London, these chapters are for personal study and reflection.

Books will be available in paperback for $10 at the church or can be obtained as an e-book through Amazon (Kindle) or directly from Inter-varsity Press (www.ivpress.com).
