Fire district tax increases by small amount
The polls closed at 9 p.m. at the firehouse on Union Ave., and the people chose to approve the 2 percent tax increase proposal. This increase is the maximum allowed under current law.
In 2017, the rate per $100 was $.082; the 2018 increase will move that number up to $.0829.
“The reasons for increase are merely for cost of living increases, i.e. electric, gas, water and sewer, fuel, insurance costs, salary increases for employees,” said Brian Hauss, Mantua fire chief.
Chuck M. Jones ran unopposed and will serve as a commissioner.
