Evesham Council appoints township’s former chief of police to fill role as new township manager

With more than 28 years of service to Evesham, the municipality’s newest township manager is a familiar face. Evesham Township Council announced this week that Evesham’s former chief of police, Michael Barth, would assume the role of township manager to replace outgoing manager Tom Czerniecki. Although Barth retired as chief of police in 2013, he’s since served in a role akin to business administer for the department by handling various administrative and budgeting work.

Evesham Township hires firm to create new vision study for downtown

Evesham Township officials are moving forward with plans to begin a new vision study that would eventually seek input from residents on how they would like to see Evesham’s downtown area along Main Street and Maple Avenue develop in future years. Evesham Township Council awarded a contract at this week’s meeting to an architectural and planning firm to create a new downtown vision study and redevelopment plan, which officials say could begin seeking input from residents as early as April or May.

Costs double for Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey to send care packages to military overseas

A big change in the way the United States Postal Service handles military mail is causing big problems for the Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey military support group. However, because of recent changes at the USPS, OYRSJ chair Dave Silver said it would now cost the group about double last year’s price — more than $100,000 — to ship a similar number of care packages in 2018 as it did in 2017. The increase in shipping costs stems from a decision by the USPS to consolidate its number of postal centers that process military mail.

Evesham Township School District to hold information session for 2018–2019 budget on Feb. 13

The Evesham Township School District will hold hold a community meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13, to provide members of the public with information about the preliminary 2018–2019 budget. The preliminary 2018–2019 budget meeting will take place on at 6:30 p.m. in the all-purpose room at the DeMasi School. This event is not a board meeting. No action will be taken by any board members in attendance.

Suspicious vehicle investigation by Evesham Police leads to drug and prostitution charges

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On Feb. 5 at 2:28 p.m., a detective with Evesham Township Police Department observed an allegedly suspicious vehicle in the area of Route 73 and Lincoln Drive. The detective, in an unmarked vehicle, arranged for a patrol officer to stop the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, police say the detective developed information to believe all occupants were involved in the promotion of prostitution. According to police, the arrest and subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of cocaine, heroin, Molly and cash.
