High school sports playoff update: Cherry Hill West wrestling wins opening round match

West girls swimming will open their postseason this afternoon.

Cherry Hill High School West wrestling opened the 2018 South Jersey Group IV playoffs with a strong effort against Moorestown High School on Monday evening.

The №1 seeded Lions defeated the №8 Quakers, 50–28, in the quarterfinals of the sectional tournament on Monday evening. Cherry Hill West got wins in four of the final five matches of the meet to seal the win. Max Sullivan, Joseph Ummarino, Xavier Barker, Dominic Ummarino and Dimitri Serrano all earned pins for the Lions.

Cherry Hill West will host Pennsauken High School on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the South Jersey Group IV tournament.

Cherry Hill West boys, girls swimming to compete in playoffs today

Cherry Hill West girls swimming will take part in the first round of the South Jersey Group B tournament this afternoon. The №7 seeded Lions will visit №6 Gloucester Institute of Technology at GCIT. The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. The winner of today’s meet will face №3 Shawnee High School in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Cherry Hill West boys swimming also qualified for the postseason, earning the №8 seed in the South Jersey Group B tournament. They will visit №5 Ocean City High School this afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner of the meet will face off against №4 Shawnee High School in the quarterfinals.

Cherry Hill East’s boys and girls swimming teams are the №1 seeds in their respective South Jersey Group A tournaments. Both teams have earned a double bye into the semifinals of their tournaments and will start their postseason journeys next week.
