Join the student scholarship fundraising efforts on Feb. 22
Rowan College at Burlington County Foundation will host a Mardis Gras-themed Celebration of Philanthropy, the organization’s principal fundraiser for student scholarships, at RCBC’s new Student Success Center on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
This year’s Celebration of Philanthropy, entitled Unmasking the Future, will be the first time the RCBC Foundation has hosted the event at RCBC’s state-of-the-art Student Success Center, the gateway to the newly transformed Mount Laurel Campus. The Foundation will welcome back Emmy-award winner Bob Kelly, traffic reporter for Fox 29, as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Bobby Chez, of the world-famous Bobby Chez’s crab cakes and owner of Bobby Chez, Inc., will provide keynote remarks.
“The Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders is committed to keeping education affordable for all families,” said Burlington County Freeholder Director Kate Gibbs. “The Freeholders and the college work together to ensure students can achieve a high-quality education. With Rowan College at Burlington County Foundation scholarships and programs like 3+1, students can attend RCBC knowing they can graduate without the burden of debt that most four-year institutions impose.
“We look forward to joining the college and Foundation on Feb. 22 in celebration of the donors who help make RCBC scholarships possible and the students who are able to achieve their dreams at RCBC,” Gibbs said.
“Thanks to the support of the RCBC Board, Foundation Board, Burlington County Freeholders, the business community and generous individual donors, the RCBC Foundation was able to award 300 scholarships to students in need last year,” said RCBC Foundation Board Chair Tony Mahon. “The excitement for this year’s Celebration of Philanthropy is unmatched. We invite you to ‘unmask the future of education’ and help even more students through Foundation scholarships.”
“Meeting scholarship recipients at the Celebration of Philanthropy is always incredibly humbling and impactful. Their perseverance, ambition and individual stories of success inspires the spirit of giving,” said RCBC Acting President Michael Cioce. “When someone donates to the RCBC Foundation they are giving the gift of an education, which is something no one can ever take away.”
Mummers, music and Mardis Gras masks are included in the evening’s agenda. Attendees will also enjoy a taste of New Orleans with cocktails and small plates menu that include treats like beignets, seafood jambalaya, po’boys, and of course Bobby Chez’s jumbo lump crab cakes.
Last year’s Celebration of Philanthropy broke all previous records by raising more than $175,000 from a single event. More than 350 people attended the sold-out event, featuring keynote speaker Rowan University President Dr. Ali Houshmand.
This year’s event committee is co-chaired by RCBC Foundation Trustees Karen Albanese, Pat Meller and Stan Ellis.
