Moorestown Parks & Recreation’s Chef Katie Sklarow, will be teaching students the in’s and out’s of making some classic, crowd-pleasing appetizers. These are not exclusive to Super Bowl parties but will be a hit with your friends and family as they watch the Eagles.

Students will be making pretzel bites from scratch. They’ll learn some baking basics like measuring and how yeast works to make dough rise. Pretzels are similar to bagels and rise twice — once in boiling water and again in the oven.

What’s better to dip a pretzel bite in than Buffalo Chicken Dip? This will be made with a mild hot sauce to keep it kid-friendly. Students learn how to adjust seasonings and how flavor profiles are constructed. The ingredients speak for themselves: chicken, cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, sour cream, cheddar cheese, blue cheese and scallions. That’s a party for your taste buds.

There will be two classes offered — one on Thursday, Feb. 1 for older kids, grades five through eight from 5 to 8 p.m. and one on Friday, Feb. 2 for younger students, grades three to six from 4 to 7 p.m.

You can also spoil your Valentine with these fun classes:

  • Valentine Homemade Gifts: Saturday, Feb. 10 from 12 to 3 p.m.

Grades four through eight will make strawberry preserves, herbal tea bags and bath bombs. Kids will come home with six gifts wrapped and ready to go with a big hug and kiss.

  • Valentine Baking: Tuesday, Feb. 13 for grades three to six from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 14 for grades five through eight from 4 to 7 p.m.

Culinary students will make sugar cookies that are marbled with red and white and swirled together. Two flavors of truffles will also be made — oreo chocolate truffles and one other depending on food allergy requirements.

  • Wood Working Workshop: Tuesday, Feb 6. and Tuesday, Feb.13 from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. for grades two and three.

Join Pete and Julie Bender from the Moorestown Hardware store for the annual “Wood Working Workshop.” Children will about learn wood working techniques, tool use and safety. This year’s project will be to build a birdhouse. Not eagle-sized but perhaps Eagles decorated!
