Boy Scout Troop 170 holding 50th anniversary Court of Honor on Feb. 10

Anyone who has been a part of the troop over the past 50 years is welcome to attend the event.

Boy Scout Troop 170 of Cherry Hill celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018 with a series of public events and an all-year reunion. Founded in 1968 and chartered by Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Troop 170 has enriched the lives of countless area boys and the community at large. To date, Troop 170 has produced 87 Eagle Scouts with more quickly approaching this prestigious honor.

“Our troop has upheld the ideals of scouting for five decades now, centered around building character and focused on leadership development for our youth”, said Christian Habina, Scout Master of Troop 170. “I am incredibly honored to serve as Scout Master for this troop. I stand on the shoulders of giants who have held this great honor before me, whose dedication and sacrifice has helped to make this troop so successful over the last 50 years.”

Boy Scout Troop 170 develops the skills and attitudes required of good and useful citizens, preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime and instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Scouts are trained in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of physical and outdoor activities, educational and skills development programs.

“People generally understand how scouting benefits the boys, but it also benefits the community,” said Anthony DeFrancesco, committee chairman of Troop 170. “There is an important relationship between Troop 170 and our community through the service work that scouts provide to local groups and also a wide range of Eagle Scout projects which are designed to help local religious organizations, schools, and community groups.”

Troop 170 welcomes former members, family and friends, supporters, and anyone who would like to learn more about scouting to their anniversary events, kicking off with the 50th Anniversary Court of Honor on Feb. 10.
