Two dead in Mullica Hill crash

The following report is all on file with the Harrison Township Police Department.

On Sunday, Jan. 21, at 4:58 p.m., the Harrison Township Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Mullica Hill Road for a motor vehicle crash. Arriving officers observed a 2012 Camaro in the westbound lane of travel with extensive front end damage. The driver of that vehicle, a 71-year-old male Media, Pennsylvania resident was trapped in the vehicle. The second vehicle, a 2011 Ford Fiesta was resting on the driver’s side across the eastbound travel lane with extensive front end damage and resting on a utility pole. The driver of that vehicle, a 61-year-old male from Essex Fell, New Jersey succumbed to his injuries on scene. The passenger, a 64-year-old female from Essex Fell was being transported to Cooper Trauma Center by Gloucester County EMS and Life Support 1 and succumbed to her injuries while enroute to the hospital. The driver of the Camaro was transported to Cooper by Penn Star 6 with serious head and leg injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the Camaro was traveling west on Mullica Hill Road when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline of the roadway and collided head on with the Fiesta. The driver of the Camaro was unrestrained, while both occupants of the Fiesta were wearing their seatbelts. The crash is still under investigation. The crash investigation is being handled by Ptl. Kevin McGowan. He was assisted by Sgt. Matthew Neely, Sgt. Brent Datz, Ptl. Henry McLaughlin, Ptl. R.J. May, Ptl. Anel Kalabic, and Special Officer Nicholas Pastic. Additional assistance was provided by the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Unit, the Mantua Township Police Department, Ewan Fire Company, Harmony Fire Company, Glassboro Fire Department, Gloucester County EMS, Life Support 1, Life Support 3, Life Support 200, and Penn Star 6, and the Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Mullica Hill Road was closed from approximately 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. while the investigation was conducted, and the scene was cleared. The roadway is now reopened. This is an active crash investigation and as such, information is limited at this time. If and when further facts and information become available, they will be released at that time.
