Haddonfield Plays & Players is proud to present Big River, previewing on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. through Feb. 17. In Roger Miller and William Hauptman’s musical adaptation of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a rebellious teenager, Huck, takes off on a raft with runaway slave Jim and they encounter conmen, an orphaned family, and bigotry along the way.
While audiences today may not be familiar with Big River, it won seven Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1985, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Featured Actor. Songs from the musical cross genres, featuring numbers in the style of classic Broadway show tunes, country, and bluegrass.
