Special guest former Philadelphia Eagle Jason Avant will oversee the wing-eating contest at the assembly
In an effort to generate excitement for the district’s upcoming Helping Hands Hoagie Sale on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4, and to encourage hoagie pre-orders, the Hoagie Sale organizing committee will stage a lively assembly on Thursday, Jan. 18, beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the Investors Bank Performing Arts Center at Washington Township High School. Now in its 23rd year, the massive hoagie sale is the district’s largest fundraising effort, the proceeds of which go directly to local families who are facing serious medical situations.
Former Philadelphia Eagle Jason Avant will serve as the commissioner of the main event — a wing-eating contest showcasing a number of district “personalities” including: “The Man Raised by Wolves,” “The Gentleman Wing Eater” and” “Hot Sauce Sheridan.” Also on hand will be WTHS graduate and Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader Dana Pasqualone and Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf.
Following the antics, students will be directed to the serious message behind all the frivolity through a presentation by former Hoagie Sale recipient and current WTHS child study team member David Walls, who lost his leg to cancer. A video highlighting the event will also be shared with the audience that will include a number of WTHS athletes and club members, as well as FutureActs students from all three middle schools.
“The assembly will incorporate outrageous, entertaining antics for our students while also bringing attention to the seriousness of the hoagie sale and those who benefit from the generosity of our community members who support it,” said comprehensive community service advisor Ron Lucarini. “It’s a fun way for us to reach our students and to give them an opportunity to participate in a community service project that benefits people in their own schools and neighborhoods.”
