Also, new Committeewoman Julie DeLaurentis was sworn into office for her first three-year term serving the town. Following the reorganization meeting, the committee also held a work session where they implemented a policy requiring the municipality to notify residents within 200-feet of a redevelopment property. Committee appoints mayor, deputy mayor at 2018 reorganization meeting
The Harrison Township Municipal Court was filled with friends, family, colleagues and dignitaries for the 2018 reorganization meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 2, as newcomer Julie DeLaurentis was sworn into office, alongside Mayor Louis Manzo and newly-appointed Deputy Mayor Don Heim. Members of the committee also shared comments on their outlook for the new year, many suggesting 2018 to be one of growth and prosperity in Harrison Township.
Committee creates policy for redevelopment notices
Following the 2018 reorganization meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 2, the Harrison Township Committee held a work session meeting where members unanimously approved a policy that requires the municipality to notify residents of a redevelopment property within a 200-foot radius. The approved policy will mirror the notification requirements in place for non-redevelopment projects.
Harrison Township police and firefighters respond to Summerville Farm building fire
On Sunday, Dec. 31, at 12:24 a.m., the Harrison Township Police Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at 1319 Ellis Mill Road. Police and fire personnel arrived on scene at 12:29 a.m. and found an approximate 20-foot by 30-foot outbuilding at the Summerville Farm fully involved. The farmer was on location when the fire occurred and sustained minor injuries but refused any medical treatment. CFM-2 William Gigliotti of the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s office is handling the investigation. It appears the fire is accidental at this time and as such there is no criminal investigation.
