Whitman Elementary School Chorus honored to perform with the Philharmonic of South Jersey

This is the sixth consecutive year the Whitman Chorus has been invited to perform with the orchestra.

The Whitman Elementary School Chorus made some beautiful music on Sunday, Dec. 3, as they performed with the Philharmonic of South Jersey in front of 1,200 patrons at the Eastern Center for the Performing Arts in Voorhees. This is the sixth consecutive year the Whitman Chorus, directed by music teacher Candy Maxwell, has been invited to perform with the orchestra. The Philharmonic performed their annual holiday concert with up and coming New York singer and pianist Caleb Collins.

At the end of the concert, the auditorium was filled with the sounds of the musical piece “Sleigh Ride,” as the kids entered to perform for their portion of the concert. The students started out singing “Sweet, Sweet Time of Year” with Collins, followed by a performance by just the kids of “Jingle All the Way Medley.” Just when the audience thought the performance was over, Collins came back out on stage to perform “What a Wonderful World” with the kids, which brought the audience to their feet.

Whitman students were bused to and from Voorhees through a generous donation from the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey. Whitman staff members Corinne Arenz, Tia Cade, Gina Castano, Cathy Cooper, Connie DiNardo, Tori Dott, Kim Haines and Jodi Masso, along with Principal Ray Anderson, helped chaperone the trip.
