Middle schools host soccer tournaments to benefit world language departments

Funds raised will benefit world language-related activities at the schools

Looking for a way to raise funds for world language-related activities at their schools, Bunker Hill Middle School Spanish teacher Clarissa Marin-Mojica and Chestnut Ridge Middle School German teacher Kayla Berry organized separate school soccer tournaments as a new fundraiser.

Students paid $5 each to participate, and they created their own teams. Physical education teachers helped organize the teams, make the brackets and officiate the games.

At BHMS, nearly 80 students took part in the tournament. The first-place winners were Team Spain, which included Nate Kidwell, Matt Koerner, Nick Kelley (grade eight), Lucas Hilbert, Aiden McGuigan, Santino Imperato, Cayden Hughes, Adam Hoskins, Nick Kelley (grade six) and Miles Solomon. The winners were treated to a special lunch sponsored by Chick-Fil-A. Team USA finished second and Team Brazil was third.
