Burlington County encourages residents to recycle non-working holiday lights this season

Residents can recycle non-working strands of indoor and outdoor holiday lights at Burlington County’s Resource Recovery Complex.

As residents begin decorating their homes for the winter holiday season, Burlington County Freeholder Deputy Director Kate Gibbs recently made an announcement to remind residents that they can recycle non-working strands of indoor and outdoor holiday lights at Burlington County’s Resource Recovery Complex.

“It’s that time of year again when you take out the holiday lights, plug them in, and nothing happens,” Gibbs said. “Instead of tossing them in your trash, help keep the holidays ‘green’ by recycling your non-working strands of indoor and outdoor holiday lights at the County’s Resource Recovery Complex.”

Gibs said strings of lights should never be placed in curbside recycling carts or buckets.

“When delivering strands of lights to the Resource Recovery Complex, we ask that residents place them in clear plastic bags or cardboard boxes,” Gibs said.

This free program is open to all Burlington County residents. The Resource Recovery Complex is located at 22000 Burlington-Columbus Road in Florence and is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Additionally, residents of Evesham can bring their holiday lights to their township e-waste recycling drop off location, but should contact the township directly for hours of operation.

To learn more about the county’s announcement, call the Burlington County Recycling Office at (609) 499–1001, email recycle@co.burlington.nj.us, or check the free Recycle Coach smartphone app.

Recycle Coach is available on iTunes and GooglePlay app stores and lets residents get their recycling schedule, including paper shredding days, find where to recycle old TVs and more.
