Veterans Day visitors bring experience, stories to Bunker Hill Middle School

BHMS social studies students heard from local veterans in honor of Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 13

Social studies students in Kathy Jeffries’ classes at Bunker Hill Middle School were educated and entertained by a visit from several veterans on Monday, Nov. 13. The guests were in the classroom to commemorate Veteran’s Day. Visitors included:

Shannon Silvanni, an active duty member of the United States Air Force for six years, where she was assigned to intercept morse code messages; Earl W. Moore III, a retired sergeant who served in the U.S. Army military police for 20 years. He was deployed to Afghanistan and Bosnia, and he was assigned to the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks. Among the awards Moore received was a Bronze Star Medal; Chuck Hunt, the father of seventh-grader Maggie Hunt, he spent 16 years in the Army and 11 with the U.S. Air Force. He was one of the first responders at Ground Zero in New York City on 9/11, and is now working as an emergency medical technician with various SWAT teams in the area; and Michael Lawler, the father of eighth-grader Ava Lawler, he is a relative of Gen. John Glover, who helped George Washington guide his troops across the Delaware River to attack the Hessians in the Battle of Trenton. Lawler served in the U.S. Navy for five years.
