Runners invited to register for 2nd Annual Marlton Turkey Trot 5K Run on Thanksgiving Day

The event invites resident to kick-off the Thanksgiving holiday by getting in some last minute exercise on the morning of Nov. 23.

One of Evesham’s newer community events is coming back for a second year this Thanksgiving when runners line up along Main Street for the 2nd Annual Marlton Turkey Trot 5K Run.

Sponsored by the Evesham Celebrations Foundation, the event invites residents to kick-off the holiday by getting in some last-minute exercise on the morning of Nov. 23 before heading home to enjoy turkey and other Thanksgiving favorites.

Starting at 9 a.m., the event will take runners through the same course as the annual Marlton Mayor’s Cup 5K on the Fourth of July as participants travel down Marlton’s Main Street and through a few side streets along the way.

Officials are once again promoting the event as a “low-key” run, and as with last year’s inaugural event, it will not feature timing of the runners’ performances.

However, each participant who registers for the event will be provided with a new dry-fit performance T-shirt, and kids ages 13 and under who register will also receive medals for their participation.

The event will also feature free water and snacks for runners, and restrooms will be provided.

According to Mayor Randy Brown, an avid runner and one of the founders of the Evesham Celebrations Foundation, last year’s inaugural Turkey Trot brought more than 450 entrants to Main Street for some pre-Thanksgiving fun.

Brown described the event as just another way to allow residents to become involved with their township and bring members of the community out for an event where they can enjoy themselves.

“Especially on a family day like Thanksgiving,” Brown said.

Brown said this year’s shirt for registered participants will also be long sleeved for the fall weather.

To give residents time to enjoy Thanksgiving with their families, the run will begin at 9 a.m. near the Main Street Fire Station, with registration on the day of the event opening at 8 a.m.

Those interested in registering online can visit runsignup.com and search for “Marlton Turkey Trot.”

Registration costs $15 per entrant, with an additional $2.50 sign-up fee. Online registration ends Nov. 22 at 4 p.m., so those interested are advised to register soon.

With sponsorship from the Evesham Celebrations Foundation, Brown said the Marlton Turkey Trot was another example of the types of events he and others had envisioned when the foundation was started.

“When we put ECF together, these are the days we were looking forward to,” Brown said.
