Mt. Laurel Community Emergency Response Team to host public information session Nov. 16

Those interested in helping their community during emergencies, disasters and public events are invited to learn more.

The Mt. Laurel Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), through the Mt. Laurel Office of Emergency Management, is hosting a public information session on Nov. 16 from 7to 9 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel EMS Station at 201 Masonville Road.

Those interested in helping their community during emergencies, disasters and public events are invited to learn more. According to CERT officials, the team is always in need of more volunteers, and training and insurance is provided.

Officials say the program helps train volunteer citizens to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities, as when emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site.

Officials say CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

CERT officials also note that volunteering is not only restricted to Mt. Laurel residents, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend the event on Nov. 16 to learn more.

The Nov. 16 event is open to the public, and no registration or sign up necessary.

If those who attend decide to join the team during the session, officials will have paperwork available.
