Daughters of Penelope hosting annual tea party fundraiser on Nov. 19

Proceeds from the event will go toward K9 for Warriors and Covenant House of NJ.

The Daughters of Penelope, Nike Chapter 230 is hosting its sixth annual tea party, “Tea & Treasure in the Winter Palace”, on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees. Primary beneficiaries of this fundraising event will be K9s for Warriors and Covenant House of NJ.

K9s for Warriors saves both warriors and rescue dogs. The organization is dedicated to providing service canines to our service men and women suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post-9/11. The goal of the organization is to empower them to return to civilian life with dignity and independence.

For more than four decades, Covenant House has helped transform and save the lives of over a million homeless, runaway and trafficked young people. The organization offers housing and support services to young people in need — helping more than 46,000 boys and girls every year. Their work is guided by a mission to serve youth with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help suffering homeless kids, and to protect and safeguard all children in need.

The cost of a trained service dog is $15,000, and the organization is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase at least one dog and make a meaningful contribution in support of homeless teens.

Community members can take out space in the Tea Party Commemorative Journal for the event. There are also event sponsorships available. Contact chapter president Stacy Chryssofos at schryssofos@comcast.net or event co-chairperson Andrea Tsapralis at andrea.tsapralis@icloud.com for more information.

With the objectives of the Daughters of Penelope being to promote hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence, the organization is a leader in philanthropic, educational and cultural activities and promotes the spirit of cooperation.
