Letter to the Editor: Kate Wilson

Wilson responds to a recent advertisement in the Moorestown Sun.

I write on behalf of the many people who are sickened by the advert you ran in this week’s Moorestown Sun. I would greatly appreciate you publishing a clear apology to both the candidates who were erroneously attacked in the full page Board of Education, “Fuzzy math” advert.

I know Jack Fairchild and Lauren Romano and based on my experience with them they are people of great character, great integrity and their only interest in running for the Board of Education is to contribute to the continuation of our great school system. As well as the inaccurate and horribly misleading accusations about Romano and Fairchild’s relationship with the teaching union (there is none), the advert contains a blatant lie about the roll of the Board of Ed in COAH decisions — anyone who attends town council knows that this difficult negotiation sits directly within their area of responsibility. At a minimum, shouldn’t you be checking ads for accuracy?

The Moorestown Sun is normally a positive thoughtful contributor to discussions on local issues. Running ads like this, funded by groups who are not even in Moorestown, does nothing but divide a fabulous community and having seen all of the Board of Education candidates denounce this piece at the Oct. 25, “Meet the Candidates” session, it feels like you owe the community an equally visible retraction/apology for publishing an advert containing such misleading information.
