Letter to the Editor: Nicole Gillespie

Gillespie makes her case for Moorestown residents to vote for Romano and Fairchild in the upcoming Board of Education election.

In my 20-year career as an educator, I’ve worked with teachers across the U.S. and have seen many examples — both good and bad — of the effect school boards can have on their schools and communities. In the most inspiring cases, school board members brought a variety of perspectives, which led to a better understanding of the complexity of the school system.

In Moorestown, we have an incredible opportunity on Nov. 7 to elect two individuals to our school board who understand how the system works for the smallest, most vulnerable members all the way to the most powerful. As a parent, special education teacher and former high school teacher, Lauren Romano brings critical expertise on how the system works from the ground up. Jack Fairchild brings a deep understanding of federal and state education policy and fiscal management as well as experience with advocating at the state and local level for policies that serve our students.

Nearly 65 percent of Moorestown residents’ property taxes go to our schools; Romano and Fairchild are committed to being good stewards of that investment. They are equally committed to maintaining the quality of our schools for all students, which is a big part of why Moorestown is such a desirable place to live (and why our property values are so high) in the first place.

Public education is among the most critical investments a community can make in its future and Moorestown’s commitment to excellent schools is one of the main reasons I chose to live here. Romano and Fairchild understand that quality education for children in our community and good stewardship of our tax dollars cannot be treated as an either/or proposition. I will be voting for them for Moorestown BOE on Nov. 7 and hope you will do the same.
