Mt. Laurel Fire Department and other emergency services draw locals to annual Fire Prevention Night

The parking lot of Mt. Laurel’s Wegmans grocery store was filled with fire, EMS, police and other emergency vehicles on Wednesday night, but there was no danger in sight. Instead, Oct. 4 marked the Mt. Laurel Fire Department’s annual Fire Prevention Night. Kids and families who stopped by the event were treated to fire safety information, emergency vehicles on display, a chance to shoot water from a fire hose, demonstrations of fire sprinklers dousing fires and even a live demonstration of firefighters using their equipment to cut open a damaged vehicle.

Mt. Laurel Fraternal Order of Police to host Halloween Trunk or Treat Safe Zone on Halloween night

The Mt. Laurel Fraternal Order of Police Lodge №191 will be hosting its second annual Halloween Trunk or Treat Safe Zone event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Halloween night, Oct. 31. The event will be held Parkway School, located at 142 Ramblewood Parkway. FOP members say there will candy, goodies and a safe family friendly Halloween experience.

Lenape Regional High School District BOE approves new opioid abuse policy

At the Sept. 27 regular meeting of the Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education, the board approved a new policy that enables school nurses to receive the appropriate training to administer an opioid overdose antidote during school hours or during school-sponsored activities. School nurses may administer an opioid antidote to a student, school personnel or others believed to be experiencing an opioid overdose.

Four Lenape Regional High School District students named National Merit Semifinalists

The Lenape Regional High School District is congratulating four senior students who have been named National Merit Semifinalists as part of the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. According to the district, Sakshi Chopra from Lenape High School was among the students to join a nationwide pool of about 16,000 academically talented high school seniors who now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million.

Mt. Laurel Schools seeks community involvement in three upcoming strategic planning nights

The Mt. Laurel School District is set to embark on a new strategic planning initiative, and officials are asking for help from the community. District officials are hoping to base their plan on input offered from residents. According to the district, meetings will be held on Thursdays Nov. 2, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 in the cafeteria at Hartford School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and concluding by 8 p.m.
