Meet the Candidates in the 2017 Borough of Palmyra Council Election: Week 1

In the first week, the council candidates explain why they chose to run for council and what their biggest priority is.

The Palmyra Sun is running a three-week Meet the Candidates series ahead of this November’s Borough of Palmyra Council election.

Below are profiles of the candidates running in the election. In the coming weeks, the candidates will answer questions regarding issues pertaining to the town.

Name: Timothy S. Howard, MBA
Age: 50
Occupation: Business Development Coordinator for a Third-Party Logistics Company
Political Affiliation: Democratic
Clubs/organizations: Chairperson for the Palmyra Democrat Party, Palmyra Community Center Program Board, Palmyra Halloween Parade Committee, Palmyra Riverton Cinnaminson Rotary Club, Palmyra High School Hall of Fame Committee, Burlington County Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Planning Board and Citizen Advisory Panel

Why are you running for town council?
I am a firm believer in “if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem”. Talk is cheap and volunteer actions goes along way. I am running for those who believe and trust in our local government to make the educated difficult decisions for the betterment of our community.

If elected, what would be your top priority?
I have experience in the non-profit, public and private sectors of the business world. This understanding has provided me the ability to see the big picture and make the difficult decisions that are placed upon the council. I plan to continue to keep our fiscal plan to maintain a balanced budget while providing the best services for our community.

Name: Gina Ragomo Tait
Age: 54
Occupation: Work for Verizon Communications for 22 years as a repair service clerk and steward for union Ibew 827 Central.
Political Affiliation: Democrat
Clubs/organizations: I am a mother of three children, wife of 23 years. I have been part of the Halloween Parade Committee for many years, Community Center Program Board, Palmyra High School Soccer Booster.

Why are you running for town council?
I have been on Palmyra Borough Council for three years. I would like to see as many programs for the residents of Palmyra as possible.

If elected, what would be your top priority?
I would like to see more transparency to let the residence know how the taxes are being spent.

Name: Brandon Allmond
Age: 33
Occupation: Import/International Freight Specialist & Owner, Woodshop Dropout
Political Affiliation: Palmyra Democratic Party
Clubs/organizations: Veterans of Foreign Wars Lifetime Member-at-Large

Why are you running for town council?
After serving my country with honor and integrity, I wanted to extend that service to the community that I’ve planted roots in. I want to be directly involved with the growth of Palmyra by bringing new insight and young perspective to the table.

If elected, what would be your top priority?
To get the younger residents involved by listening to their concerns, encouraging their input and respecting their ideas. I don’t believe politics is a spectator sport — I want to truly serve in the best interest of the people of Palmyra.
