Shawnee High School to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of First State Championship Field Hockey Team on Oct. 6

The school will recognize the 40th anniversary of this winning group during half time of the Shawnee vs. Winslow Township field hockey game.

Both members and the head coach of Shawnee High School’s 1977 field hockey team — the first field hockey team in school history to win a state championship –will be honored on Friday, Oct. 6. The school will recognize the 40th anniversary of this winning group during half time of the Shawnee vs. Winslow Township field hockey game. The field hockey alumnae will have their names announced and receive a commemorative shirt donated by the Corners Club, the Shawnee Field Hockey Booster Club. The event will take place at Shawnee High School

The game will start at 4 p.m. and the ceremony will start at half time.

Shawnee High School field hockey has won 12 state championships, the fifth most of any school in the state, and its winning streak of five consecutive titles from 1988 to 1992 ties the team for having the second-longest streak in the state.
