Dr. Baird was one of six area physicians honored as a “2017 Extraordinary Doctor,” winning the Humanitarian Award. The Humanitarian Award recognizes a physician whose project or service significantly enhanced the quality of life for people in the region, the nation or the world.

Dr. Baird received the award for his tireless work to tackle South Jersey’s opioid addiction crisis, through both community outreach and a tracking program launched at Kennedy University Hospital’s Emergency Departments that he hopes could lead to the creation of a national database so opioid-seeking patients cannot go from ED to ED — or doctor to doctor — seeking medications without a red flag being raised.

In addition to frequent public speaking and educational programs for health providers and first responders in the region, Dr. Baird also helped establish a program with Gloucester County-based nonprofit group City of Angels, which has specially trained recovery coaches volunteer their time in the ED setting to help tackle barriers standing in the way of an addict’s treatment.

A South Harrison Township, NJ, resident, Dr. Baird earned his bachelor’s degree from Kings College (Wilkes-Barre, PA) in 2004. A 2009 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed both his Internship and Residency (Internal and Emergency Medicines) at Rowan University of Osteopathic Medicine (formally the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine) in Stratford, NJ.

Dr. Baird is a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP), American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (NJAOPS), and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
