The Township Evesham Police Department has named Officer Matthew Carlin as “Officer of the Month” for August 2017 for his “quick actions” that saved the life of a 13 year old girl.

Carlin has been a member of the Evesham Police Department for 17 years and was on patrol traveling on Route 73 near Brick Road on Aug. at 8 p.m. when he noticed a vehicle stopped on the side of the roadway and observed what appeared to be two subjects involved in a physical altercation.

Police say Carlin immediately responded to the incident, which turned out to be a medical situation where a father was attempting to dislodge an item from his daughter’s throat as she was choking.

According to police, Carlin immediately took command of the matter by performing the Heimlich maneuver on the 13-year-old female, resulting in the obstruction being dislodged from the female’s throat allowing her to once again breathe on her own.
