Harrison Township School District Superintendent Dr. Missy Peretti shares her thoughts in this week’s column
In this issue, I am excited to share the space of my weekly Mayor’s Message with my good friend, Dr. Missy Peretti, superintendent of the Harrison Township School District.
The district includes Harrison Township Elementary School (K-3) and Pleasant Valley School (4–6). We have an outstanding public school system in Harrison that serves as an important thread in the fabric of our community. Once a month, the space for this column will be devoted to hearing from HTS, which will include the students’ voices on occasion.
I know this will enable all of us to further appreciate what’s happening with the children in our community and the vital role this exceptional education system plays in our lives.
We kick things off with a Welcome Message from Dr. Peretti:

Welcome, Harrison Families, to the 2017–2018 academic year in the Harrison Township School District. The summer has been quite a busy one with phase one of our exciting roofing project being completed at HTS and our many summer programs, both academic and co-curricular, filling the classrooms at PVS. Our students have their much-anticipated first day of school on Thursday, Sept. 7, which will be a full session day.
Classroom assignments and bus passes were post marked on Aug. 22, as promised, and should have arrived in your mailboxes in the days immediately following. I know that the students were anxiously awaiting that mailing and, since then, have been eagerly anticipating meeting their teachers and classmates! I am fully confident that our children will have an enjoyable and successful academic year, as plans have been made very carefully for each individual, taking much information into consideration. Just a reminder that the times for transportation pickups are an estimate at this point, as there are many variables that have to be taken into consideration in routing. Please have your children ready for their first day of learning at the assigned bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the time on your pass.
I, on behalf our Board of Education, administration and staff, would like to thank our full community for your continued support of our school district, and we vow to continue to do our best to take care of Harrison’s very treasured community members, our children. We are looking forward to welcoming them back and hearing about all of the exciting experiences they had in our community and beyond throughout the summer months, and we hope that you have a school year filled with sensational dinnertime stories about all the wonderful and creative things that will be happening in our classroom and schools.
