YMCA Camp Ockanickon, Inc. will officially kick off its Annual Campaign to send kids to camp, with a breakfast on Sept. 13 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the dining hall at YMCA Camp Ockanickon, located at 1303 Stokes Road in Medford. During this event, guests will experience the magic of camp through the heartfelt testimonials of alumni and scholarship recipients. The event will also be an opportunity to learn about a partnership with Bob Meyer Homes and the camp’s goals for 2018 and beyond. All are welcome to attend.

The campaign will run for six weeks, with a goal to raise $325,000 to provide scholarships and financial assistance to deserving children and teens who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get the life-changing experience of summer camp due to financial hardship. Camp has a long history of providing opportunities for children, teens and families to learn, grow and thrive.

Last year, thanks to the support of caring individuals, organizations and foundations, YMCA Camp Ockanickon provided over $500,000 in scholarships and financial assistance to more than 600 children and teens, to attend its wide array of programs including: Camp Ockanickon, a sleepaway camp for boys; Camp Matollionequay, a sleepaway camp for girls; Lake Stockwell, a co-ed day camp; and specialty camp partnerships. Many of these children come from the poorest areas in Camden, Philadelphia and Atlantic City. For every child who attended one of our camp programs — including our specialty camps — we provided a safe, nurturing, fun-filled place for them to belong.

“Camp Ockanickon is an organization that helps young people realize their potential, a place that encourages their social, emotional, cognitive and physical development,” said Mark Dibble, CEO of YMCA Camp Ockanickon, Inc. “We’re proud of the impact that a YMCA camp experience can have on a child’s life, and we take that awesome responsibility quite seriously.”
