Fall sports season preview: Cherry Hill West girls cross country

A large group of seniors hope to make a splash in their final high school season.

Last season: Cherry Hill West finished in 10th place at the South Jersey Group III sectional meet last year with 238 points. Junior Keller Bean was the top finisher for the Lions with a 37th place finish. Freshman Cameron Wright finished just behind Bead in 41st place.

Returning and new runners: All six runners who competed for Cherry Hill West in last year’s sectional meet are back again this year. Seniors Bean, Cassaundra Hoch, Sally Johnston and Emily Santana are all back for the final high school seasons. Wright and junior Liz Santana also return from last year’s team. Mary Solomon and Maddy Harrison are two new runners to keep an eye on this year.

Key meets: The South Jersey Open at Delsea Regional High School on Oct. 1 will be a big meet as it is the preview of the South Jersey Group III sectional course. Head coach Maggie Strimel is excited to see how the team performs in the season’s opening meet, the Cherokee Challenge, on Sept. 9.

Season outlook: Strimel is hoping each of the runners is able to shave some time of their previous personal bests this season and work together as a pack.
